They provide flexibility, in that the grantor (creator of the trust), can put conditions or restrictions on the timing and use of the funds. Trusts also provide continuity in that it is created during the life of the grantor and can continue to operate after the death of the grantor. Trusts also provide privacy. The grantor chooses a trustee to manage the trust for the benefit of the beneficiaries. The trustee has a fiduciary obligation to the beneficiaries.
Revocable vs. Irrevocable: A revocable trust can be changed or modified by the grantor during his or her life, but it becomes irrevocable after the grantor’s death. An irrevocable trust is not meant ot be modified or terminated at any time.
