How To Write

Step 1 – Section 1 – 1 Month Before –

  • It’s best to begin your party planning process for at least one month in advance so that you will be prepared for any unexpected surprises
  • Begin by choosing the type of party you wish to have
  • Set a date
  • Prepare a guest list
  • Mail, email or call guest to invite them

Step 2 – Section 2 – 3 Weeks Before –

  • Choose your menu
  • Create your timeline for preparation of recipes
  • Make a list of ingredients for recipes
  • Try any new recipes prior to your party
  • Prepare in advance any foods that will safely freeze
  • Make arrangements to rent, borrow or purchase serving items (linens, platter, flatware, glasses etc)
  • If alcohol will be served, look into hiring a bartender if needed

Step 3 – Section 3 – 2 Weeks Before –

Purchase liquors and wines (arrange for home delivery closer to the date of your party, should you so desire)

Should your friends offer to bring something, let them know what they will be responsible to bring

Practice your table decorum. This way you’ll know what it will look like and if you’re missing any items, you may make arrangements to acquire them

Step 4 – Section 4 – 1 Week Before

  • For those guests who have not yet responded by RSVP- call and/or email them so you may include or exclude them on your list
  • For those guests who have offered to bring a dish, contact them to be certain they still intend to attend your party in the event you need to replace their contribution
  • Make space in the refrigerator and freezer for groceries as they come in
  • Prepare any recipes that will keep well for a week or less

Step 5 – Section 5 – 4 Days Before –

  • Purchase all remaining nonperishable items

Step 6 – Section 6 – 2 Days Before –

  • Wash and polish (if needed) any flatware, serving dishes, glasses etc
  • Iron cloth linens (if you’re using linens)
  • Move frozen foods made previously, to the refrigerator to defrost

Step 7 – Section 7 – 1 Day Before

  • It’s time to purchase perishable foods, salad makings, fresh fruits, sea foods etc.
  • If you will have fresh cut flowers included in your decorum, pick them up 1 day before or have them delivered
  • Assemble any dishes that can be prepared in advance
  • Wash, wrap in paper towels and store all vegetables in separate, air tight containers and place in refrigerator

Step 8 – Section 8 – 4-7 Hours Before –

  • If needed, prepare your bar
  • Place your flower arrangements

Step 9 – Section 9 – 4-5 Hours Before

  • Chill any sparkling or white wines to be served

Step 10 – Section 10 – Up to 1 Hour Before

  • Complete all food preparations
